Focus on ranged combat. Ranger is not very similar to the 5E ranger. This ranger will me more directly tied to its namesake. They will be adept with ranged weapons. Possible features similar to 5E fighting styles might allow for the character to fire multiple arrows/bolts/etc at once, pierce through multiple targets, add range, etc.

Starting Class Features
Combat Techniques
You have trained for years, or you simply have a gifted hand, but in either case you have mastered the ability to pull off advanced maneuvers during combat.
At level 1, you begin with 6 points in your stamina reserves. These stamina points can be used to execute combat techniques.
At each level, you gain an additional stamina point in your reserves, and every fifth level, starting at fifth level, you gain an additional 5 stamina points.
You begin at level 1 with 3 combat techniques, and learn an additional technique at every level.
You have access to the Combat Techniques Special Action System.
Far Fighter
Starting at 1st level, you have an additional ranged combat technique. Every second level, you gain an extra ranged combat technique in addition to the combat techniques you gain every level.

Once per short rest, you can use your attack action to target an enemy you can see. If you make an attack against the targeted enemy the following turn, you get a guaranteed critical hit, as long as you hit. If you also roll a crit on the die, the critical hits stack. If the enemy you've targeted dies, or moved out of sight by your next turn, you gain no benefit from targeting them. |
